A man lift was delivered to the lighthouse site by Moran Ironworks on
Friday April 17, in preparation for installation of the new lantern the
following week. The empty foundation by the man lift was the site of an
old Bell Telephone switching building which was removed from the property
by the prior owners for use elsewhere. The roof in the immediate
foreground is a combination garage and apartment which had been
constructed some time in the past 30 years. It is currently occupied by an
Emmet County Sherriff Deputy who helps provide security on site. Plans
call for the eventual relocation of the building across the road to a
parcel of property which Emmet County purchased in 2009.
